Our Process

From concept to completion

At Next Storey, we handle the entire process from your initial idea to completion. But it doesn't stop there. When you choose Next Storey, you become a part of our family, and we are always available to address any questions or concerns that may arise. Our commitment extends beyond completion, ensuring your satisfaction every step of the way.

Call Back

Once you have filled out and submitted the enquiry form, we will promptly send you a questionnaire to understand how we can best assist you. After you have completed the questionnaire, we will reach out to you within an hour to have a brief discussion about your goals for your new home extension. From there, we will schedule a meeting with one of our design consultants.

STEP 1

Initial Meeting and Project Brief

We will arrange a meeting with a design consultant who will assess the feasibility of your project, considering factors such as building costs, structural requirements, and council regulations. By the end of this initial consultation, we will have a clear direction for the project.

STEP 2

Preliminary Measure & Design Agreement

During a second meeting, our design consultant will present floor plans, a conceptual 3D render, specifications, and an estimated project cost. This will allow you to visualize your new first-floor extension and determine if it aligns with your desired outcome. At this stage, you will authorize Next Storey Home Additions to prepare architectural and structural working drawings, as well as develop a building contract in preparation for construction.

STEP 3

Site Visit & Working Drawings

During this phase, you will meet with the geotechnical expert, surveyor, and engineer. Their documentation will be incorporated into the working drawings, which will then be submitted to your local council for either a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) or Development Application (DA). A draftsperson will also visit to ensure the accuracy of the initial measurements.

STEP 4

Construction Agreement Signed

Once we have obtained council approval for either a CDC or DA, we will present you with a final set of drawings, detailed specifications, and the construction agreement. By this point, the price will have been confirmed, and there will be no hidden surprises. With everything in order, we can proceed confidently.

STEP 5

Homeowners Warranty Permit Issued

We will obtain homeowners warranty insurance, and the certifier will issue a construction certificate. This allows us to begin organizing trades, materials, and project scheduling to ensure efficiency and a smooth workflow.

STEP 6

Work Commences

Building a first-floor extension requires coordination among various trades. In the initial weeks, our carpenters will work on cutting into the existing roof, constructing the subfloor, and building the new walls and roof frames for your extension. This phase progresses quickly and is truly awe-inspiring to witness. Throughout this process, you can continue living comfortably in your home undisturbed.

STEP 7

Final Punch-List & Occupation Certificate Obtained

Due to the unique characteristics of each extension, the timeline may vary. After several months of work, a final punch-list inspection will be conducted in collaboration with you and our project manager to ensure that everything has been completed to your satisfaction. Upon successful completion, the certifier will issue the occupation certificate, allowing you to settle into your newly extended living space.
